Holiday Service Project:
Information regarding our holiday service project was sent home on Friday. Once again, we are sponsoring a needy family this holiday season. Not only does our family struggle financially, their 17 year-old-daughter is battling cancer. All contributions are greatly appreciated. Gift ideas are listed on the information sheet in your child's binder. Please help us brighten Christmas for this special family.
A note from the office...
YEARBOOK: Now’s the time to place your orders. Yearbooks are $10.00 and the deadline for your orders is Tuesday, December 1, 2009. No orders will be accepted after that date. Please make checks payable to Lifetouch. Please make sure your student’s name, teacher’s name and grade level are marked on the order form. If you have multiple students, please fill out one for each child. Yearbook order forms went home with your child on November 12th and there a few extra envelopes available; please try not to lose them. If your child loses it, you can send an envelope with the following information on it: student’s name, teacher’s name and grade level along with a check made payable to Lifetouch for $10.00. It is very important that you put the information on the envelope; Lifetouch does not know who your child’s teacher is.
Prairieview Yearbook orders are not paid at registration!
Let's look ahead at our week...
Spelling:
We will not have a spelling test this week.
English:
The students will continue to work on Unit One: Nouns, and contract enrichment.
Reading:
We will continue to read our new novel, A Family Apart. This book falls into the genre of historical fiction, therefore, it ties in beautifully with our lessons in social studies. Our summaries of each chapter are coming along quite well. In addition, we have had some lively discussions prompted by comprehension questions. Reminder: A “200” minute reading chart will be due on Thursday, December 3rd. They require a parent signature. They were sent home on Friday, November 20th.
Math:
We will complete chapter 6 which covers time and temperature. The Chapter 6 Math Test is tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, December 1st. Please continue to practice multiplication facts at home. Fourth graders are expected to know their facts so that can apply them easily to new math concepts.
*Important: If your child has a different math teacher, please visit her blog for weekly math updates.
Social Studies:
The Southeast Map Quiz will be Thursday, December 3rd. This time, bonus points will be earned if your child includes state capitals. We will continue with Lesson 2 in Chapter 6.
Science:
We will wrap up our study of heredity and move on to Lesson 2: The Life Cycles of Plants.
